Bordure: A Playful Display Font for Creative Makers

There’s something special about the moment when a design finally clicks. I was working on a set of candle labels for my small handmade shop, and I needed a font that felt both whimsical and trustworthy. That’s when I discovered Bordure. The first time I typed out “Handcrafted with Love” in Bordure, I knew it had the right balance of charm and clarity. It wasn’t just a font—it was a character.

Bordure is a brand new display font that brings a fun and playful style to any project. With its soft curves and slightly bouncy letterforms, it feels like it was designed by someone who enjoys doodling in the margins of a notebook. It’s not too wild, but it’s definitely not boring either. This makes it perfect for stationery, logos, t-shirts, and even website headers. It has a certain warmth that invites people to pause and take notice.

Bringing Bordure to Life on Handmade Products

I started experimenting with Bordure on different surfaces. First, I used it for a batch of seasonal greeting cards. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the body text, which made the whole design feel balanced. The contrast between the playful Bordure and the modern sans serif gave the cards a professional yet friendly look. Customers loved how the names of the holidays stood out so nicely.

Next, I tried using Bordure on product packaging. I printed a few mockups of boutique-style tags for my handmade candles and soap bars. The font looked especially good on small stickers and labels because it didn’t feel cluttered. It added a touch of personality without overwhelming the design. I also used it for a set of printable wall art, where it worked beautifully as a decorative title over a simple background.

One of my favorite uses was for a wedding invitation suite. I used Bordure for the main title, “You’re Invited,” and then switched to a script font for the names and dates. The combination felt elegant and unique. It helped elevate the overall design and gave the invitations a sense of occasion.

Where Bordure Shines Best

Bordure is ideal for short phrases, names, titles, and decorative wording. Its playful style works well as a display font, making it great for product labels, signs, and digital downloads. However, it might not be the best choice for longer blocks of text due to its more stylized nature. For body copy, pairing it with a simpler font can help maintain readability while still keeping the visual interest.

I’ve found it especially useful for creating seasonal products. Whether it’s holiday tags, festive signs, or summer-themed mugs, Bordure adds a light-hearted touch that fits perfectly with the theme. It’s also a go-to for planner pages, where it helps break up the content and make important headings stand out.

When working with cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette, I noticed that Bordure cuts cleanly and consistently. The letters are well-proportioned, which makes them easier to handle when creating stickers or vinyl graphics. For smaller items like tags or badges, the font holds up well without losing its charm.

Designing with Bordure: Tips and Pairings

To get the most out of Bordure, consider pairing it with a complementary font. A clean sans serif font like Montserrat or Helvetica works well for body text, providing a nice contrast. If you want to keep things more traditional, a simple serif font like Georgia or Garamond can offer a classic touch.

If your project leans more toward the handcrafted side, try combining Bordure with a script or handwritten font. This creates a cohesive yet dynamic look that feels personal and inviting. Just be sure to test the combinations before finalizing your design—sometimes what looks good on screen doesn’t always translate well to print.

Before using Bordure for commercial projects, I always check the included styles, alternates, ligatures, and swashes. It’s also important to confirm the file formats available and ensure there’s multilingual support if needed. Most importantly, make sure the font comes with a commercial license, especially if you plan to sell physical products, templates, or digital downloads.

Bordure has become a staple in my creative toolkit. Whether I’m designing labels, invitations, or digital assets, it brings a sense of playfulness that elevates the overall look. It’s not just a font—it’s a way to express creativity and connect with customers on a deeper level.
